We have just the perfect and a bit over-the-top example of this. For instance, in one of the episodes, Peggy’s doctor checks out her feet. He becomes too interested in her feet, while she thinks that he is checking them out because of some foot modeling job.
Of course, that wasn’t the case, as the doctor was actually recording her feet doing strange things for a foot fetish p*rn site. Even though this episode is quite funny, if you think of it, it also has an uncomfortable angle.
Dark humor is somewhat inevitable when it comes to comedy shows such as this one. Without it, King of the Hill definitely wouldn’t be the same and wouldn’t gain so much popularity.
#2 – Comedy of Character
The show was full of great characters, but Bobby Hill was easily one of the best. Bobby had an infectious attitude and was absolutely full of ironic quotes and comments.
In one of the episodes, Bobby is portrayed as very creepy.
When Luanne moved with her aunt, Bobby started creeping up on her. As time passed, Bobby fell in love with Luanne and even watched her sleep to get a chance to see her naked. However, the show’s creators portray these two characters more like siblings than lovers, so it’s pretty dark.
Again, some find this whole creepy Bobby situation very funny, but other viewers find it just weird. Experts on comedy say that this joke didn’t really age like fine wine and that in today’s shows, we don’t often see this type of relationship between characters.
But then again, there is Game of Thrones and House of The Dragon as first-class incest representations, so we guess those are still present. Well, GoT not so much anymore.
Bobby isn’t the only character with a funny and strange personality. In fact, almost all the characters are somewhat the same, but as Bobby is still a kid, it’s very funny to see him acting strangely.
#3 – Relatable Humor
And, of course, a show that follows the lives of mundane people from Texas must have at least some relatable jokes and situations. Even though exaggeration is unavoidable, relatability is almost certain, at least to American citizens.
King of the Hill is, to some extent, a satire of the American way of living. You are definitely able to picture the characters of Bill, Hank, Bobby, or Dale in real life.
For instance, in one of the episodes, Bobby wants to accomplish Hank’s dream of him becoming a member of the football team. But, instead of that, he becomes the high school mascot. He tries really hard to live up to his dad’s expectations but fails when he finds out that the school mascot needs to be beaten up after the team loses the game.
Instead of sucking it up, Bobby ran away as soon as his team lost. Even though the school and, more importantly, his dad and mother wanted him to take that “like a man,” he acted cowardly and ran away.
But then again, who would stay to get beaten up? And that’s exactly why, even though Bobby might have ended up getting hurt, he ran away, but we all would have done the same thing. So, as you can see, the situation is quite funny and relatable at the same time.
