Though breakups are painful, you never walk out of one empty-handed. Every break-up teaches you a lesson. Here’s how Vidhan took his lessons from a break-up and turned his life around.
Originally from Gwalior, Uttar Pradesh, Vidhan is a resilient 23-year-old individual who pursued his BTech from the Indian Institute Of Technology (BHU), Varanasi. Not currently pursuing, have graduated from IIT, BHU
He enjoys watching movies and reading books in his free time. Growing up, Vidhan’s always shared a very close relationship with his family. He mentions that their relationship has only gotten stronger with time.
Unfortunately, it was not the same for his romantic partner. He was in a committed relationship for four years, and when it ended, he was devastated.
It takes a whole lot of courage to say goodbye to someone you love so deeply. It’s easy for no one, but sometimes necessary.
Though Vidhan would have never expected this initially, he knew that this was a new phase in his life that he had to go through.
Unfortunately, just when he seemed to accept the pain and heartbreak, the lockdown came with its very own set of consequences for us all.
“Once the lockdown had begun, I had so much time on my hands. All these feelings came back to me and I started to overthink everything that was going on.”
We’ve heard the famous saying “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.”
The sudden pause we experienced amidst the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic brought this sense of idleness among many young people.
For Vidhan, this pause brought back memories of his relationship, and these were very painful to think of.
“I felt this sudden void in my life after my breakup. It was very hard for me to accept what happened, and it made me contemplate my own self-worth.”
He felt himself withdraw from interacting with his loved ones, family and friends. He started to go down the spiral of overthinking, overanalyzing, and self-doubt.
The world-renowned poet Robert Frost says it best- “In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.”
Similarly, Vidhan knew he had no other choice but to move. Knowing that he needed help in this new chapter, he discovered YourDOST through his university and decided to begin his counseling sessions.
“I’ve never been a very expressive person before I began therapy. Though I had my doubts about it, therapy has helped in ways that I did not know were possible.”
He booked his first session with his therapist, Ms. Kanksha who helped him embark on this journey of healing. She assisted him with various techniques for healing from the past and living in the present.
Vidhan also adopted the practice of journaling it helped him process and reflect on his feelings. He started to develop a deeper understanding of himself and the role of his relationships in his life.
“I’m extremely grateful to Ms. Kanksha for everything she did for me. It is through her guidance that I felt like I have met myself, and that has been a liberating journey.”
With the courage and determination of a true warrior, Vidhan has been able to battle against fears, doubts, and insecurities that were holding him down. He learned to be kinder to himself and discover what it truly means to love himself.
Vidhan’s journey with therapy has been one of enlightenment and positivity.
Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady of The U.S. says,
“I am who I am because of the choices I made yesterday.”
This quote fits perfectly and encapsulates the strength one has to choose to do better. And it is this choice that Vidhan has made which has transformed him into a healthier, calmer, and happier version of himself.
He rates himself a 3.5 out of 5 in terms of feeling better on his journey toward acceptance and is determined to stay focused and positive, no matter what.
Vidhan’s Warrior Tips:
1.“Always remember that tough times don’t last, tough people do.”
2.“Therapy can help you in ways that you may not know you need, but has the power to change your perspective on life.”
