Pari is a high-spirited 20-year-old from Bihar. She belongs to a humble family with her parents a younger brother and an elder sister. She enjoys playing chess and is currently preparing for internships and placements.
“I had a normal upbringing, and my childhood was alright and I grew up being close to my parents.”
Pari mentions instances where she dealt with placement pressure and she was very committed to her education.
Things seemed in control until all of it started slowly collapsing in November 2023 and our warrior had a fallout with her friend’s group.
“I was shocked to see what was happening to us. We were friends from Day 1 and to see the dynamics change and affect the bonds we shared worried me. The environment just started getting toxic ever since.”
Pari narrates how she did not have a lot of friends, she had no one to talk to and it was around this time that her college partnered with YourDOST and on signing up she gained access to counseling.
Pari booked her session with Ms. Karuna and spoke about the different issues she had and how she had instances of extreme anxiety and panic attacks.
“During November 2023, I had a great set of friends but things became different and it almost felt like a reality check and this worried me. Pari expressed that Ms. Karuna was nice and a patient listener. She showed empathy throughout my sessions. Therapy is a slow process, it is not like you take it once and everything gets fixed.”
Pari expressed that her upliftment did not necessarily include any techniques but only positive self-talk and motivation that her counselor provided her with and this conversation helped Pari gain control of her emotions and be able to walk out of this pressuring environment.
“These times were quite stressful for me and I would often have mood swings it made me feel lonely.”
Pari describes that his journey in therapy has been refreshing and she thinks twice before speaking and doing things. She is also mindful of her actions and can think rationally and make informed decisions.
“Not always can I depend on my friends and family, Karuna was all I had when I had days like that. She was there to just listen to me and understand me without any judgment.”
This is the silver lining of change and adaptation as it helps you identify aspects of growth and work towards achieving it.
When we asked our warrior how much would she rate herself on a scale of 1 to 5 in terms of getting better she rated herself with a 3. We appreciate her efforts toward becoming a better version of herself.
Pari’s Warrior Tips:
1.“By just hearing somebody say “I understand”, you can’t always believe them. You need a professional to help you get through your mental health concerns.”
2.“Seek help when needed and be transparent with whoever is willing to help you. It’s the first step towards change and a better you.”
