“There is only one way to happiness and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will.” – Epictetus.

24-year-old Utsav Jain is an ambivert by nature who bared multiple interests. From being an avid reader, a supple dancer to binge-watching movies, Utsav is loaded with traits that make him a person who is always progressing. Utsav spent his salad days in Jammu.

“Most of my childhood was centred around my joint family and by 2019, we moved into a nuclear family.”

Utsav completed his Honours in Business Management from ISBF after which his academic timeline led to him pursuing an MBA in Marketing Management. Utsav had his hands on supporting his family business with whatever time he could dedicate. Later, He was offered a great opportunity to advance his professional career at ISBF for the position, Student Relation Manager.

“I have a very supportive family and they have never stopped me from doing what I aspired for.”

Utsav found himself under a lot of pressure and the constant staying at home made him introspect his past life.

As his professional life accelerated, it came to a point when he had to rush back home from Delhi, sue of Covid-19. In no time, Utsav, being the eldest son in the family, had to rejoin his family business hand-in-hand with his job. The work from home that followed was accompanied by some changes in Utsav’s behaviour. Utsav noticed a constant pain in his chest. He also developed sweaty palms that weren’t usual for him.

At that time, Utsav lost his grandmother which took a toll on him. There was no escape but to face these changes with a numb heart. The fact of leaving his job city and coming back home also was hard to swallow for Utsav. Soon, Utsav found himself under a lot of pressure and the constant staying at home made him introspect his past life.

“Being a person who went through a lot of childhood trauma, I was finally finding the time to think over all those issues.”

Utsav figured out all these traits aligning to signs of anxiety when he consulted a doctor. Utsav was finally realising that he was not fine and needed help. Sharing it with one of his friends, he was suggested to take up a therapy session. So, Utsav took his first session of counseling via YourDOST which is an emotional wellness coach through his workplace, ISBF.

“I was quite sceptical about the idea of counseling in the beginning. Later, I was head-over-heels about the same after a few sessions.”

Counseling took Utsav to a great new position in his life and the biggest issue, anxiety, had started to fade.

Utsav’s counselor Devyani, helped him take control over his frequent episodes of anxiety by various tactics. He was suggested to maintain gratitude journals and work on his sleep timings. Utsav was introduced with the method of box breathing, also known as square breathing. It helps in slowing down one’s breathing as a counter to anxiety attacks and works wonders in distracting the mind from the trigger point. Utsav was also guided to instigate workouts in his regime and encourage changes in his environment every now and then by switching rooms.

Counseling took Utsav to a great new position in his life and the biggest issue, anxiety, had started to fade. He was constantly trying to improve his mental health day-by-day as he managed to follow Devyani’s guidance thoroughly.

“She was always there for me. She helped me build a new confident Utsav and always knew what needed to be done in my times of turmoil.”

Utsav describes his improvement from anxiety with one word, Amazing. In times, when Utsav didn’t know whom to share his troubles with, he offers his unbounded gratitude to his counselor for her constant presence.
