Mehaboob’s Story Of Divising Healthy Coping Mechanisms Through Therapy

Mehaboob is a 32-year-old lead software engineer at Virtusa, Hyderabad. He has been in the IT world for more than nine years after completing his undergraduate studies in electronics and communication.

He is originally from Belgaum, Karnataka. Mehaboob shares that he lost his mom when he was four years old, and his elder sister and brother took care of him along with his father while he was growing up. He was a brilliant student during school and finished his education with merit and scholarship.

Mehaboob has been married for four years and has two lovely kids. He worked in Bangalore for almost nine years before settling in Hyderabad. He explains that although he was having a normal life, he used to have anger issues once in a while, and when he lost his father, too, it was more challenging to control his emotions.

“I lost the only parent I had, and it was horrible. I felt depressed and couldn’t accept the loss.”

While Mehaboob was processing his grief, he found a virtual ‘gift box’ on his company’s website and discovered the benefits it provides for the company. He found out about their tie-up with the YourDOST platform for psychological well-being. He recollected that the logo on the platform was the same as the affirmation stickers on his desk and decided to try it.

“I started having sessions with a few experts and was impressed by their listening skills.”

He explains that they had heard all his problems completely and directed him towards resolving each of them. Working with them in every session, Mehaboob shares that he was able to work through all the stages of grief and get out of depression. He adds that even his anger issues were reduced, and he could channel and manage his emotions well.

Mehaboob elaborates that he decided to use counseling’s benefits as a healthy mechanism for dealing with life situations and self-improvement. He also consulted the experts to enhance his professional growth.

“Even though we watch videos on social media or read self-help books, talking to these experts is something different. They have a unique skill that helps us find solutions and growth that we can’t find through surfing the internet.”

He explains that he was confused about whether to become an entrepreneur or continue in IT. Through the decision-making techniques taught in therapy, Mehaboob could make a clear decision. He adds that the experts also guided him with his questions regarding parenting his kids and their educational needs.

“I’m generally a self-motivated person. I sought therapy to set an example for the younger generation, but it ended up being of great help. I thank my counselors for giving me a perspective on all the different issues I went through. I am more confident than I was in the earlier days.”

As he rates himself 5 out of 5 for seeing progress and improving his career and personal life, we wish him all the best and are happy to be a means of his growth.
