Vishal’s Journey of Life Through Grief and Loss to Calm with Therapy

“Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, but about learning to dance in the rain.”

Sometimes in life, we fall face forward on the ground with no one to help us up and move on. However, once you learn to do it alone without anybody’s help, nothing can stop you from reaching the finishing point.

Meet Vishal, a Senior Manager at Xiaomi, this 40-year-old is originally from Karnataka. He spent his childhood in and around the city of Bellari as his father was a bank employee and his mother a homemaker.

“Being the only child born after ten years of my parents’ marriage, I was extremely cherished and pampered. My upbringing instilled the importance of family responsibilities and duties in me which helped me later on in life.”

Vishal spends his leisure time taking long walks and watching comedy shows to let his stress out.

He has been married for almost 13 years and has a son too but the birth of his son and the issues faced by Vishal and his wife as a couple at that time were immensely draining for them.

Vishal learned about YourDOST through Xiaomi, which had taken the progressive step of partnering with the platform as their official mental health partner. This move broke stereotypes about therapy in the corporate world and encouraged Vishal to seek help.

“It was a stereotype-breaking move by the leadership at my company, hence I decided to try therapy.”

Vishal and his wife opted for couple counseling with YourDOST. They had an excellent first impression of their therapist, who helped them navigate through their challenging times.

Vishal’s mother passed away in 2018 which was an extreme blow to the family, but when his father too passed away during the pandemic, Vishal felt his world crumble. They faced immense stress and uncertainty when they were left alone, however, Vishal’s father’s relatives stepped up for them giving them the much-needed support.

“When I lost my father, my pillar of strength, we were completely lost and shattered. My wife was pregnant, and I did not know how to handle it.”

Adding to their troubles, Vishal’s wife’s family distanced themselves, leaving the couple to fend for themselves.

During the peak of the pandemic, Vishal’s wife tested positive for Covid-19 which was a breaking point for him. However, his relatives offered crucial support, and therapy with YourDOST helped them come out of the situation.

Vishal and his wife’s counsellor played a pivotal role in helping them understand the importance of mutual support and effective coping strategies. Through regular sessions, they explored their negative thoughts and found ways to overcome them.

“My counsellor helped me understand that we have to be the support for each other, and rely on each other in dire times, which will strengthen our bond as partners and be good parents to our baby.”

One of the techniques Vishal found particularly helpful was journaling. By documenting their negative thoughts and discussing them in therapy, they gained clarity and relief.

“Journaling and writing down the negative thoughts that we had in mind helped us see through the negativity.”

The therapist’s guidance brought about significant positive changes. By analyzing their emotions and addressing them constructively, Vishal and his wife managed to regain their footing and move forward with their life.

“When we are disturbed mentally, even the smallest things seem extremely huge. Our counsellor helped us analyze each emotion and bring us on the right track. She was like a saviour for us as she gave us a sense of direction, hence we’ll forever be indebted to her.”

Vishal rates his experience a solid 5 out of 5, acknowledging the miraculous improvement in their situation. His story shows how therapy and a strong support system can guide us through the darkest times.

We at YourDOST are proud of Vishal’s journey and wish him continued success and happiness!
